How to build your body confidence daily

by Davide Dabramo on March 18, 2021

We all do it – the thing where you look in the mirror and start pulling yourself to bits. Before you know it, you’ve switched outfits again or you’re on the phone getting a pep talk from a friend.

It happens so easily. Those negative thoughts about our bodies are there all the time picking away at our confidence. In fact, it’s such a regular thing we don’t even notice it after a while.

Whether it’s particular body parts or feeling you don’t match up to expectations, negative self talk about our bodies is seriously limiting. It affects how we feel and how we act – even though we think we have it well hidden.

When you build your body confidence, you build your self worth. When your self worth is high, anything’s possible. That’s why it’s really important to fight the negative thoughts and boost your body confidence daily.

You see those negative thoughts will keep coming so you need some powerful daily strategies to keep the negative voices at bay. Here are 7 simple ways you can grow your self confidence daily.

How to build your body confidence daily:

7 simple ways to power up your self confidence

  1. Accept compliments: You know when someone compliments you and you turn around to see who they were talking to? No more.

In future, know you are deserving of praise. Believe the compliment, receive it without any type of funny put down to yourself and thank the person.

And that’s it.

No thoughts about why they said it or whether they really meant it. Let’s stop cancelling out a compliment with a put down to ourselves. We shouldn’t do it but we do.

We have to fight these thoughts. They come to us all and they are really destructive. These are amazing years we will never get back.

Don’t let it be the case that you look back on yourself in the decades to come and wonder why you wasted so much time worrying about how you looked when you actually looked great. Or why you let yourself be controlled by what other people might think of you.

Our never-ending exposure to false images of perfection mean we all have to keep working on our body image so never think it’s just you. It’s always encouraging to hear icons talk about their own struggles with self image so we can remember we are not alone.

What you have to do, is to feed the tiny voice that says you are worth it. Feed it constantly and soon you’ll notice it getting stronger and louder each day until eventually, you believe it.

  1. Do you: Second way to feed that tiny voice? Wear what you really want to wear.

You know when you browse through a website or rail of clothes and something catches your eye. Then you have a must-have it moment. Well before the negative thoughts talk you down – put it in your basket!

We all deserve to wear clothes we love, that make us feel good. If you look at your wardrobe and it feels blah – it’s time to spice things up.

I have one rule when I shop– if I don’t love it – I don’t buy it!

You deserve to wear beautiful clothes. Clothes that make you feel sexy, alive and confident. That might be a super casual look one day and a foxy as hell look the next. The point is to dress for yourself and as if you are worth it – because you are.

If you fancy wearing a red lip with sweats – wear it. Do whatever works for you every day and don’t- whatever you do – hold back.

There’s a little tiger in all of us- let it out!

  1. Have fun: That means you are free to experiment. There are no rules or limitations except those you put on yourself.

Listen to what you really want to wear and wear it. Have fun, play around with your clothes and try different looks. Don’t put yourself in a box or feel you have to dress like everyone else.

Style icons have influence because their look is unique so never be afraid to follow your own mind.

Play around with looks until you find what works for you. Most of us have lots of different looks so you don’t have to limit yourself. Remember clothes come in a variety of cuts, styles and designs because we are all shaped differently. If something doesn’t fit right, don’t take it personally, just try it in another style.

  1. Compliment yourself: Do look in the mirror and compliment yourself. I know this is a hard one but it’s really important. Start by finding individual things you like about your body then work on complimenting all of you. You’ll soon find you actually believe what you’re saying.
  1. Positive affirmations: Positive affirmations are a great way to help you build positive self talk. Have a few affirmations that you focus on each week. Pop them on post it notes and stick them in some memorable places, like the fridge and your bedroom mirror. Every time you say them, you’ll be adding to your library of positive self talk.
  1. Surround yourself with positivity: Negative self talk doesn’t just come from us. It seeps into our minds via the other voices we have in our lives. Other people and the media we are exposed to daily, have the power to elevate us or make us feel rubbish about ourselves.

If people, online content or printed publications leave you feeling bad about yourself – ditch them. Whether its your socials, magazines or friends, the things you expose yourself to have a huge impact on how you feel about yourself.

Don’t keep looking at things that make you feel bad.

We are lucky to live in a time where body positivity and diversity are top of the agenda. It doesn’t take much to find online content or people that will elevate you. Follow people that lift your mood on socials, buy mags that inspire you and hang around with people that support you.

  1. More than a body: It’s really easy to only see your body as one thing but its not.

Your body is a powerful machine, a home to your unique soul and a priceless gift to keep healthy and well. You are an incredible, amazing person and your body is part of that.

Make a point to write down 7 things you like about yourself that are nothing to do with your body and look at your list often to remind yourself what a great person you are.

Remember to make time for self care every day. Evenings are a good time of the day to schedule in some me time. It doesn’t have to be extravagant. It can as simple as a huge, relaxing bubble bath.

The point is to look after yourself and treat yourself with the same level of kindness you give to friends. Keep reminding yourself you do deserve to look good.

There is only one you. The sooner you like you – the better you’ll feel about yourself and your life. You only get one life – make sure it’s all you want it to be and more.
